Marquis Los Cabos Beach Resort awarded Distintivo T

Marquis Los Cabos Beach, Golf, Spa and Casitas Resort - the first establishment in Baja California Sur to be awarded Mexico’s Distintivo T, followed by seven other Cabo San Lucas businesses.

Februrary 27, 2007 - Los Cabos, Mexico - Marquis Los Cabos Beach, Golf, Spa and Casitas Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico is the first establishment in the state of Baja California Sur to have been awarded the prestigious Distintivo T (Distinctive T) by the Tequila Regulating Council (Consejo Regulador del Tequila). On February 26, 2007, Ella Messerli, General Manager of Marquis Los Cabos, was presented with the award by Ing. Narciso Agundez Montaño, Governor of Baja California Sur.

On February 27, 2007 seven more Los Cabos establishments were given the award––Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos Resort, Hotel Finisterra, Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort and Spa, Mi Casa Restaurant, Los Garcia Restaurante, Cabo Wabo Cantina and Tequila Factory Store Casa Cofradia.

Distintivo T was created in 2003 by the Tequila Regulating Council and the National Chamber of Tequila Industry with a premise of spreading the authentic culture of tequila and promoting the denomination of origin of the Tequila, Jalisco region.  
Awarded service providers must fulfill strict requirements and their personnel must undergo an official training in order to qualify for one of the three categories, 4 Agaves, 5 Agaves and Agave de Oro (Golden Agave) representing the highest standards. Marquis Los Cabos, Los Garcia, Cabo Wabo and Mi Casa were awarded the Agave de Oro, while Pueblo Bonito, Finisterra, Dreams Los Cabos and Casa Cofradia received 4 Agaves.

In order to receive this highest category of Distintivo T, the establishment must serve a minimum of 60 brands of authentic certified tequila and at least 3 dishes with tequila as an ingredient and serve the tequila in Reidel tequila glasses. In addition, used bottles must be destroyed and recycled to avoid refilling. All personnel involved in the service of tequila must undergo a training that includes the history and the production process of Mexico’s national drink; there must be a tequila expert on site.

Distintivo T may be awarded to all types of hotels, restaurants, centers of consumption and points of sale meeting the requirements.

The event of presentation of Distintivo T to Marquis Los Cabos was also a site of the world launching of one of the first extra añejo tequilas on the world market, Clase Azul Ultra, introduced by Tequilas Premium.

Aged for a minimum of five years in oak casks, this fine tequila comes in a ceramic decanter adorned with platinum, gold and sterling silver. Tequilas Premium representatives described their newest product as “ an artwork that brings together two of the most traditional Mexican elements: the artistic and artisan work and the excellence of tequila, Mexico’s national drink.” The suggested price per bottle is $1,200 U.S.
